Chris Hemmings
Scraper Operator
Location: Lives near Pittsworth, QLD, works all over.
How did you get started in the industry?
I was working in farming, operating a laser bucket but then there was drought. I thought, I wouldn’t mind giving a scraper a go. There was a job going with RSA (then Ostwalds), that was 17 years ago, and the rest is history.
What’s been the best thing about working for RSA?
I’ve been all over Australia to places that I never thought I’d see, and I’ve made some great mates along the way.
What’s kept you at RSA for so long?
The good culture and the good people have made it enjoyable. I’m also pretty particular about my machine and, for the most part, I get to operate my own which is unusal for the industry.
What are you doing when you’re not on roster?
I have a wife and two daughters – seven and four years old – they keep me on my toes! While I do miss them when I am away from home, the upside of FIFO work is that you have a good chunk of time at home to spend quality time together.
